Vadim Kibardin

VADIM KIBARDIN, 1974

Vadim Kibardin is an artist, industrial designer, researcher, craftsman. He is a graduate of the Industrial Design Department of Ural State University of Architecture and Art and German Chancellor Scholarship Program. KIBARDIN Design studio was founded in Prague (Czech Republic) in 2004 by Vadim Kibardin. Now KIBARDIN® is a trademark of Vadim Kibardin, registered in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and other countries.

The favorite topics of his research has been furniture, light, time and everything related to it. Watches, clocks as well as interior objects, are produced under KIBARDIN brand and represented in 27 countries worldwide. Kibardin’s approach to design emphasizes both innovation and functionality. By exploring new ideas, materials and technologies, and executing them well, Kibardin’s work is highly artistic, smart and always inspiring.

Vadim Kibardin delves into a conscious and responsible approach to consumption. As a pioneer of circular design, he has developed a construction method which utilizes the underexploited properties of mundane packaging. Working predominantly with paper and cardboard waste as a sculptural medium, Vadim is creating two Collections. With his Black Paper collection, Vadim offers his contribution towards achieving a circular economy, creating sculptural, highly aesthetic, and fully functional furniture out of cardboard boxes. TOTEM series includes the TOTEM stools, and a new, one-off Lolly chair - made solely of discarded packaging and designed exclusively for Mia Karlova Galerie.

At COLLECTIBLE 2022 (Brussels), he premiered a new capsule collection named Black Mirror, which featured a one-of-a-kind set comprising of a chair and coiffeuse table. Vadim’s designs express a tense dialogue between function and aesthetics. Rational and emotional worlds collide to give birth to a burst of energy encapsulated in one artistic functional object.

The expert council of Ambiente Frankfurt, the world’s most important consumer goods trade fair, has included Vadim Kibardin's TOTEM project method in the World Trends 2021 list. His international design awards include GOOD DESIGN and IDA Design Awards in USA, German Design Award and Iconic Design Award, iF Award, Red Dot Award and GMUND AWARD in Germany, Promosedia International Design Competition, Charmant design competition in Japan, Ro Plastic Prize and A'DESIGN AWARD in Italy, Design and Design in France, BIGSEE Productdesign Award in Slovenia.

His pieces have been internationally exhibited, notably the CODA Design Museum, Centraal Museum, PAN Amsterdam, GLUE Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the Cité du Design and BAD+ in France, COSMOSCOW, The State Tretyakov Gallery, Decorative Art Museum, Moscow Design Miseum in Russia, COLLECTIBLE and Galila’s P.O.C Gallery in Belgium, Paper positions Basel / Basel Art Week, Design Museum Holon in Israel, Ro Plastic Prize, Salone del Mobile and MIDO in Milano, Florence Design Week, Promosedia in Italy, Clerkenwell Design Week, Kevin's Green Heroes EXCEL London, Red dot design museum in Singapore, Gdynia Design Days, Dutch Design Week, Leeum Samsung Museum of Art in Korea and etc.
