Design Innovation Awards, Moscow, Russia
The selection of contest works for the finals of the Innovative Design Award 2005 took place in the State Center of Modern Arts on 3rd March. The experts, invited by the organizing committee, picked out ten works for the following nominations: "Architecture", "Industrial design", "Graphic design".
Concept by Vadim Kibardin, lamp Led Tourch, entered the final in the “Industrial Design” nomination.
Peter Nover, the director of the MAK museum chose 10 most innovative architects from the DIA contestants. The contenders for the award in graphics were chosen by Rick Poinor, EYE magazine editor. Projects in the Industrial design section were judged by Alexander von Vegezak, the founder and head of Vitra Design Museum.
Whilst the finalists were being chosen, shortlists in three nominations were composed. The shortlisted projects were the ones, that didn't make it into the top tens, but were, in the experts' opinion, worthy of high appraisal and, in accordance with the main theme of the contest, had an innovative approach to design and architecture.
From 2nd to 4th June an exposition demonsrating the works of the finalist of the Design Innovations Award took place in Moscow.
As part of the exhibition the winners of DIA 2005 were defined. The participants presented their projects to the international jury: Shulan Kolatan, “Architecture” nomination; Alan Zilberstein, “Industrial Design”; Stephan Zagmeister “Graphics”. After the presentation, the awarding took place, during which the laureats of the Award were announced.
